Terms

Last updated 8 October 2026

Draft: this page hasn't been checked by a lawyer yet and may change before Boroughs opens to everyone.

These are the terms for playing Boroughs, which is run by [Company name] ([Registered address]). By playing, you agree to them and to the community rules. The privacy page explains what we do with your information.

1. Who can play

2. Your account

3. In-game money and items

4. Supporting Boroughs

When it's available, you'll be able to buy a supporter pass or cosmetic items with real money. You never buy in-game money. Before you pay, we'll show you the price, what you get and, for a monthly pass, how to cancel (any time, from the game). Because you get digital content straight away, you'll be asked to agree that your 14-day right to cancel ends when it starts; this doesn't affect your other legal rights if something you bought is faulty or isn't as described. [Payment and refund details to be completed before payments open.]

5. How to behave

Follow the community rules. Don't cheat, use bots or scripts, look for and use bugs instead of reporting them, or try to get into accounts or parts of Boroughs that aren't yours.

6. What you write

What you write (chat, messages, business names, reviews) stays yours, but you let us store it, show it to the players it's meant for and use it to run and moderate the game. We may remove anything that breaks these terms or the rules.

7. Moderation

If you break these terms or the rules, we may remove what you wrote, mute you, close your business, or ban you for a while or for good, depending on how serious it is. If we think a child is at risk, we may tell the police or other authorities. If you think we got it wrong, email us.

8. The game changes

Boroughs is new and still being made. We'll keep changing and fixing it, and sometimes things will break. During the beta, we may need to reset progress; we'll tell you before we do. If we ever close Boroughs, we'll give you at least [30 days'] notice and refund any time left on a supporter pass.

9. Our stuff

The game, its code, art, characters and names belong to us or the people who license them to us. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License; see the creditsfor everything else we use. Real places and landmarks appear as part of the setting: no business or organisation shown endorses Boroughs.

10. Our responsibility to you

11. The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts can deal with any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also use your local courts. [Terms for players in the US to be added before launch there.]

12. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; if it's a change that matters, we'll tell you in the game first, and you can delete your account if you don't agree. Questions: [contact email].
